Q
“The
holiday season is supposed to be a time of joy, but I always seem to
find myself stressed out. It is getting to the point where I dread the holiday
season!”
A
Shopping,
parties, traveling, dining, families… is it no wonder why we feel
stress this time of year?
Add family conflict, challenging diets, and “must-do”
traditions, and you have a recipe for a heaping dose of stress.
Before you give up and try hibernating for several weeks to avoid
the festivities, take a look at these stress-reducing tips:
-
Shopping
- Don't shop until you drop. Catalog or online shopping provide a
great alternative to fighting the mall crowds. If you must enter the
mall, prepare a list of who you need to buy for and what ideas you
may look for.
-
Parties
- Go with the flow. The secret to working around everyone's
schedules is being flexible. Celebrate on the days that work best
for you.
-
Traveling
- Don't rush. Allow for extra time by planing only one event for one
day. Compromise is the key to balancing your travel schedule.
-
Dining
- Eat mini-meals. With all the food that is being prepared, it is
easy to overeat, so avoid doing so by eating smaller, more
calorie-traceable meals.
-
Traditions
- Think quality, not quantity. Would anyone really be hurt if you
asked for help preparing the holiday dinner or forgo the holiday
parade? Probably not. Find a few "must do" traditions and
remain flexible.
-
Stress
Buster - Treat yourself. Regular exercise, a soak in a hot tub, or a
soothing massage may be what you need to refresh you.
Gift
