• Approximately 14.1% (nearly 200,000) of our population is over 65 years old, 8.2% of the older adult population exist at or below the poverty level. • Over 37% of the 65+ adults suffer from chronic conditions that impair their ability to perform basic daily activities, such as bathing, dressing, meal preparation and other tasks. These men and women need of varying levels of supportive care services. • More than 62% of our older adults live on less than $25,000 per year, making it difficult for them to afford adequate housing, medication and home care services. • 34% of St. Louis' seniors survive on less than $11,000 per year, making basic necessities like food, clothing and a warm bed almost impossible. • 10% of men and women over 65 in St. Louis live below the poverty line of just $8,494 per year. These men and women cannot possibly make ends meet. • More than 30% of our older adults in St. Louis live alone or without families close by.

It has never been easier, or more effective, thanks to the St. Andrew’s Charitable Foundation.

Not all people can afford the care they need. As people live longer, healthier lives, many individuals are outlasting their savings.
St. Andrew’s Charitable Foundation makes life easier – both for elders and caregivers who are coping with the challenges of living. We touch the lives of over 5000 seniors, and provide $1.5 million in charitable care, annually.

Without the Foundation, Martha would have had to worry about falling at the top of her stairs. Foundation funds provided for a handyman to come to her house and install a railing, so she could stay safely in her home and live with dignity.

Without financial assistance from the Foundation, Joe and his family would not be able to afford the ongoing care and support in the facility where he has lived for the past several years. St. Andrew’s provides over $200,000 a year in financial aid support to residents like Joe at Tower Grove Manor and Brooking Park.

Without support from the Foundation, indigent seniors in St. Louis--like Lucille--would not receive supportive services designed to help them remain living independently and in their own home. Lucille gets help with her laundry and medication management, as well as transportation to the doctor, which saves Lucille, her family and our region thousands of dollars when compared to moving into an assisted living facility.

Without the Foundation, Juan would be worried that his mother Julia was depressed, watching TV alone in her apartment. Foundation funds pay for gardening, knitting, and computer classes, which Julia attends with her friends.
