Do You Know a Veteran?

With Memorial Day right around the corner, those who served our country are in the forefront of our minds. Many of you may know someone who is a Veteran, or a surviving spouse of a Veteran and who would like  to remain independent at home. If so, this information will be of interest to you.

The Veterans Administration has a program for Veterans and their surviving spouses whereby pension benefits may used to pay for homecare services related to non-service connected disabilities.

Eligibility Requirements

Veteran or the surviving spouse of a Veteran who has served 90 days or more on active duty with one day beginning or ending during a period of war.

Non-service medical related condition.

Meet income and asset requirements.

Type of Assistance Available

  • Bathing

  • Dressing

  • Getting out of Bed

  • Meal Preparation

  • Laundry

  • Light Housekeeping

  • Shopping

  • Assistance Getting to Physician Visits

Called the Aid and Attendance non-service-related disability pension, older adults may have difficulty sorting through the process of completing paperwork involved in applying for this government benefit.
