WEBSTER GROVES, MO (May 6, 2012) - The Derby atmosphere was alive and well at the historic Hawken House over the weekend as the St. Andrew’s Derby Brunch satisfied the tastebuds of more than 80 attendees. The event, with premier sponsors BJC HealthCare and Healthlink, raised more than $15,000 for seniors who are helped by the St. Andrew’s Charitable Foundation.
“We want to thank our event chairs Lana Shepek and Karen Gosser, as well as the Friends of St. Andrew’s board for their help in making this event a success,” said Ashley Turigliatto, Community Relations Manager for St. Andrew’s Charitable Foundation. Fannie Bohlen, Alan E. Braneird, Sarah DeYoung Brower, Millie Cain, Terry Coleman, Anna Lea Kerckhoff, Nan Klassen and Jessica Denham Selvey are all members of the Friends of St. Andrew’s Board.
Many thanks to our judges Angela Ortmann, STLwinegirl; Lana Shepek, Eckert’s Farm; and Rosanne Toroian, Food Editor, Schnucks Markets for helping with the contests at the event. Results of the judging for the event was as follows:
- Best in Show Dish: Missouri Athletic Club, Graviax and Jicama Slaw
- Best in Show Dessert: The Truffle Shack, Cake Truffles
- Best Hat: Terry Coleman
- Most Creative Hat: Georgia Yates
There were several activities at the Derby Brunch that made the occasion memorable, including carriage rides were provided by the St. Louis Carriage Company, family and group photos from Life at Play, featuring Ditto, a beautiful horse provided by Spring Willows Farm, educational tidbits from the Webster Groves Historical Society, tours of the historic Hawken House and music by Flamenco artist Lliam Christy.
