Mizpah Manor: Where Caregivers Give Back

BRIDGETON, Mo. – At Mizpah Manor, birds chirp in a beautiful courtyard that now includes a new, hand-crafted planter filled with colorful flower arrangements, courtesy of caregiver Mike Vaughn.

Vaughn, owner of MRV Services and 4AnOffice.com, visits his mother Delma at Mizpah Manor often, says Administrator Becky Pennick.

“Mike Vaughn is an involved family member always asking if we need anything and willing to help,” said Pennick.

Not only did his company sponsor the planter for the courtyard, but they mulched the entire courtyard, donating thousands of dollars in supplies and labor.

The gift to Mizpah Manor reflects his devotion to helping older adults and his love to the parents who gave so much to him.

Vaughn says his mother and father grew up on a farm and loved gardening. Having a plantar at Mizpah will not only make his mother feel even more at home, but enhances the Mizpah Manor experience for everyone who walks through its doors.

Mizpah Manor residents use the courtyard for their personal backyard, a gathering place after meals where they can watch the birds and sometimes play washers and other activities, according to Pennick.

“We are so lucky because we have several families like the Vaughns who give back,” Pennick said.

The Mizpah caregiver community includes avid volunteers, who collaborate at family forums to schedule when to help with maintenance projects. Some are there every day giving their time.

“The families are our guardian angels,” said Pennick. “They not only save us so much time and money, but they’re great ambassadors for Mizpah. If they see a tour going on, they always chime in and share their experience.”

Mike Vaughn chose Mizpah Manor because of the proximity to his home.

“We knew it was going to touch a lot of people. If it means a lot more smiles, it is worth it,” Vaughn said. “Our elders have done so much for us and we should help them now,” Vaughn said.
